Q & A
Home Course - Ferringer Ranch. I had the unique opportunity to help with the design of this course and I really like what we came up with. Foothills parks and rec did a great job; allowing disc golfers of different skill sets to come together, design and build a great new course. With holes of varying lengths and using different types of terrain to change the difficulty it's a very fun course to play.
Longest Measured Throw - 520 feet flat land throw. This was was a beautiful hyzer flip with an Opto Havoc on the lower layout at Badlands.
Aces - 15+
Favorite Disc - Right now my favorite disc is the Dynamic Discs Enforcer. It feels very comfortable in my hand and it's offered in a variety of plastics (5 different plastics!) Each plastic is a little different in feel as well as flight, and I like that variation. The enforcer is a disc that I use for controlled distance shots and I can always trust the fade of this disc and never have to worry about it flipping over or not comming back.
Most Memorable Event - There are two defining moments I can pinpoint as being memorable and significant to my disc golf career. In 2014 I traveled down to Rociada New Mexico to play the Pendaries Village open for the first time. Playing as an advanced amateur I made the top card after round one, and went on the win the tournament by 4 strokes. Not only was this my first big win in disc golf, but my performance at this tournament was a pivotal step in building a relationship with my current sponsor Latitude 64.
Fast forward to 2015, this year was my first full season playing in the open division as a professional. I did not have much success the first half of the season. There were certainly times that I played well and had had a good round, but for the most part I was playing without focus and could not put together consecutive rounds. But that all changed during the Glass Blown open put on by Dynamic Discs. I had a solid first round that I was happy with in spite of a few missed putts. I knew I was playing well and I felt confident going into the second round. We played at Jones East and it was a round I will never forget. My uncle was available to caddy for me and I belive that to be a part of why I felt so composed. I remember feeling calm and focused. It was the first time I had been able to really "zone in" for an entire round. Sure I made some costly mistakes in the last 3 holes, but that level of focus I achieved was unlike anything I had experienced in disc golf up to that point. It felt as though I was at peace and all I had to do was see the shot, and execute. That experience reinforced my desire to play professionally. I know I have the skill set and mental capacity to be sucessfull in this sport. Now it's time to put in the time and effort to get to the next level.
Goals - I am still searching for my first win as a pro. That's goal number one. Playing in the USDGC is a dream of mine as well as playing in Europe.
Beginner Advice - Disc golf is a great game. The community is made up of some amazing people, and if you are out there having a good time your game will begin to improve and meet some of the best people ever out on the course!
